The PS3’s Blu-ray-drives are smaller, but they are also capable of supporting high-definition video

According to a report on Forbes, the PS3’s ‘HD-DVD drive’ is a new, more powerful unit which will make full use of the PS3’s processing power, as well as its extra storage space. The report states that the drive will consist of a 5.5 inch hard drive and a UHD Blu-ray disc drive. The latter is said to be a “high definition disc format capable of supporting high-definition content with enhanced output and enhanced processing speed”. It’s claimed to be a more powerful unit than the core units, which are similar in size and capacity to DVDs. One of the biggest HD-DVD drives was released a couple of years ago for PlayStation 2, but it had a smaller capacity than the PS3 has. There were HD-DVD drives available on the PlayStation 3 as well, but they were always the smaller, cheaper versions of the standard HD-DVD drive. It’s a new version of the HD-DVD drive, but one that allows for high-definition content. It’s unclear if it supports high-definition videos. The Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive is identical to the PS3 version, but it supports high-definition video. The PS3’s Blu-ray-drives are smaller, but they are also capable of supporting high-definition video. This makes the PS3’s Blu-ray-drives slightly smaller than the 360’s HD-DVD-drive, but it doesn’t make the PS3 any more powerful. Courtesy of CVG.
