Period. But you can still be hurt. Ill, injured, even killed. It’s just that it’s a lot more upsetting to see it, because it’s not only you, but the game too. You can see yourself getting hurt. You can see your character bleeding. You can see a doctor that’s on the case. You can see a stretcher being operated on, and then you can see that you’re going to have to wait to get back to the bed. And you have to wait for the paramedics. It’s just kind of heartbreaking. But most importantly, you can see someone you might not expect to be hurt, because they’re not being polite. They’re being belligerent. They’re being mean. They’re being rude. They’re being, like, totally rude. And there’s just a lot of… you know, to the point where I feel like there have been some offensive or rude elements, I’m not sure what the word for it is. It’s that sense of humanity, of everyone trying to do their best, and trying to play nice, and the world being made up of people doing that, the police not being able to do that, that just makes me feel like it’s not working. OXM: You’ve got the death stats that you’ve used to show how long you’ve been playing, and then how long the game’s gone. How long do you think you’ve been playing? PH: It’s long. It’s been over four years. And now in like “oh my god, actually, it’s been 5 years,” it’s been 5 years. Because our development cycle is long, it’s not like we are developing for another 10 years, and then we’re like “oh, we’re not doing that again.” It’s true what you get, but it’s also like there’s a draft that you get to, you know? We’ve kind of built up this momentum over the past 5 years, and then we’re like “here’s the first game, here’s the second game,” so we’re like “here’s the first 9,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 – I’ve been in this role for like almost 7 years now. Do you feel like there’s a good reason to continue, or do you feel like there’s a reason to give GTA 5 a chance? PH: Well, it’s different. You’re not doing it the right way. It’s not a reboot. It’s not a re-commitment. It’s not, like, 50 years of tradition. And I’m not saying that the studio is going to be remaking the first three games and doing a whole new thing. It’s not going to go back to 10. It’s not going to go to 40. It’s not going to go back to 30. So it’s different. It’s different tactics. It’s different philosophies. It’s different approaches. It’s different takeaways.
