Microsoft’s conference was a case in point, skipping its annual summer showcase in favor of a shortened conference held Wednesday in Los Angeles. Sony’s conference delivered mostly nothing new, aside from a new entry for the The Force franchise, but there was still plenty to ponder about. A new Mass Effect game is coming from BioWare, so hopefully we’ll see another announcement from the sci-fi RPG series soon. Meanwhile, Square Enix’s mysterious Final Fantasy 7 Remake is keeping the wait for its long-awaited next game over for another year. Microsoft’s conference was the weakest of the bunch, showcasing just how far the platform has come since the launch of Windows Vista. The tech giant is trying to reach even more people with the new Xbox, and a new Xbox Kinect will be included with the console. It’s a real shame, though. PC gaming is big business, and Microsoft’s conference was a small, focused step in the right direction. It’s difficult to see just how big the platform will be after the launch of Windows 8. Microsoft has made some big promises for the new Xbox, and it’s doing well to stick to them.
